Cacao forms an integral part of Mexico's heritage, culture, history, and serves as a vital source of income for small growers, while being at the core of the ecosystems and communities in the southeastern region.
Unfortunately, cacao production in Mexico has declined by 40% over the past decade, posing a significant risk of losing this precious commodity in the country. Consequently, bean-to-bar chocolate makers and distributors are turning to suppliers from other regions, causing Mexico to fade from the international sourcing map.
